Nonimmigrant Visas
The Nonimmigrant Visa Unit processes applications for applicants who wish to travel to the United States temporarily. Applicants in Cuba should ask a family member or associate in the United States to contact our Visa Information and Appointment Scheduling Service at 1-866-374-1769, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to schedule an interview appointment on their behalf.
Given the restricted number of American consular personnel authorized to work in Cuba, the U.S. Interests Section is only able to schedule a limited amount of applicants per day. First time applicants can expect an average two year wait time for an appointment.
On the day of their interview, a determination of an applicant’s eligibility under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is made. If favorable, their applications are forwarded to the Department of State for required interagency clearances. This process takes several months, sometimes longer.
The U.S. Interests Section will contact the applicant by telephone as soon as the clearance is received and a determination has been made on the applicant's case. The applicant will then be able to come to the U.S. Interest Section, Monday through Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. to pick up the results of his or her visa application.
Expedited Appointments for September (Spanish)
The U.S. Interests Section is pleased to inform you that there will be a limited number of interview appointments for nonimmigrant visas in September only for those applicants who have scheduled their appointment through our Call Center and who have been given their appointment after February 2009. These appointments are only available to applicants who complete the DS-156 form online and send it as a pdf attachment to us via e-mail. This service is not open to applicants who have been refused a nonimmigrant visa within the last six months.
The applicant or family member may fill out the DS-156 for each person travelling to the U.S. by visiting the link https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp?lang=1 Once completed the form must be saved as a PDF file (.pdf) and sent as an attachment via e-mail at havanavisas@state.gov
If the form is completed correctly, the U.S. Interests Section will notify the applicant/relative of the new appointment date as long as new appointments are available.
