Public Affairs Section(PAS), Havana
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) manages press, information and programming for the U.S. Interests Section (USINT) in Havana, Cuba.
Public Affairs makes available to the public in Cuba a variety of U.S. Government documents, including press releases, policy statements by government officials, position papers and other information on U.S. society and policy. PAS
Public Affairs/Press also organizes press briefings and backgrounders for international journalists and journalism training for Cuban independent journalists.
Public Affairs/Programming arranges information briefings for U.S. groups visiting Cuba on OFAC licenses, organizes telephone and video conferences designed to link emerging Cuban civil society groups with non-governmental and/or academic institutions in the U.S. and assists the independent library movements via book donations (see following).
The Public Affairs Office’s Information Resource Center conducts electronic research for local Cuban audience on a variety of professional topics, focusing on U.S. society and government.
Book Program
Books and periodicals are donated to a wide range of Cuban non-governmental institutions and emerging civil society contacts. Journalism, Political Science, Law, US Literature, US History, Economics and Cuban studies are the most frequently requested topics. English language books and specialized periodicals are commonly requested by the Teachers of English as a Second Language.
Post Publications
The PAS staff compiles collections of articles selected from specialized magazines on a wide variety of topics and issues bi-monthly “Washington Informa” compilations, in Spanish.
PAS also maintains the USINT web page, which seeks to provide information about US Government policies toward Cuba.
